How to automate marketing for a small business

For small and mid-sized businesses: an agent that drafts posts and email campaigns from your products and news, sends them to the right customer groups once you approve, and reports what worked against people you did not contact. Below: real examples, the steps to set it up, how it connects to the tools you use, and the pitfalls.

Public examples

Built by other companies and vendors, with figures exactly as their sources publish them. They are not our clients; follow each source for the full story.

How it is set up

  1. Collect consented data from the CRM, web analytics and the email platform: sign-up source, purchase history, email engagement, and the product categories each contact viewed.

  2. Build segments with plain rules first (lapsed buyers, first-time visitors, high-value customers), then let a model score likelihood to open, click or buy within each segment.

  3. Generate copy variants with the LLM from a brand guide and approved claims list; a marketer picks the variants and the offers, and the model never publishes a price or a promise on its own.

  4. Run a holdout group in every campaign (for example 10% receives no email) so the lift can be measured against people who were not contacted.

  5. Schedule sends by each contact's usual activity window, with frequency caps across all campaigns to prevent over-mailing.

  6. Track opens, clicks, conversions and unsubscribes per variant and per segment; feed the results back into the scoring model every month and retire variants that underperform the holdout.

Rather not build and maintain it yourself?

We build this agent around your own process, connect it to your tools, and keep it working as things change. You approve what matters; every action is logged.

Questions people search for

Small business marketing automation

Start with three flows: a welcome email for new contacts, a reminder for lapsed customers, and a post-purchase review request. Most email platforms offer these without code; Mailchimp's Marketing API (mailchimp.com) is there if you need to connect your shop or CRM.

Marketing automation B2B

B2B flows are built around account and contact stages, with sequences triggered by page visits, content downloads, or meeting requests. The CRM and marketing platform must share one contact record, or sales will work from stale data. HubSpot's API overview is at developers.hubspot.com.

How to automate Google my business posts

Google Business Profile posts can be created through the API: an HTTP POST to the localPosts resource, with a summary, optional photo and call-to-action. The reference is at developers.google.com. Event and offer posts use their own objects, and product posts cannot be created through this API.

AI marketing tools for small business

Pick tools that already connect to your shop, email list and calendar, because a tool that needs manual exports will not get used. Measure each tool against one number (leads, bookings or sales) for a month before paying for a second one.

Pitfalls

  • Consent: sending to contacts who did not opt in breaks GDPR, PECR and CAN-SPAM; filter on consent status before every send, not only at import.
  • Attribution: a lift without a holdout group is not proof. Keep a control group and report results against it.
  • Generated copy can make unapproved claims (prices, medical or financial promises). Use an approved-claims list and a human sign-off step for each new template.
  • The 2018 Caesars figures are old and vendor-reported; treat them as evidence the method can work, not as a benchmark for your list.
